Florence Cocker

On the death of her husband in 1896, William John Jowett's wife, Florence, was left to bring up five children alone. In spite of her eventual blindness from cataracts, she raised money to feed and clothe the children by selling bottles of ink door-to-door.

By the 1911 census, she had spent time as a housekeeper and was recorded as a tobacconist.
